How much does it cost to start a local newsletter?
The simplest answer, and probably the one you want to hear, is nothing!
That’s right. It doesn’t need to cost you anything to start a local newsletter.
Here is a list of the programs and apps you can use to run your newsletter for free.
A newsletter platform
I use Substack, which is free to send emails no matter how many subscribers you have. Others include BeeHiiv, MailChimp, MailerLite, Kit (formally ConvertKit), which all have a free plan up to a certain amount of subscribers.
Social media
Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Twitter/X, whichever your local audience uses the most, they’re all free to post on.
A social media scheduler
Scheduling posts will make your life a bit easier.
Depending on which social media you will be using, Publer has a limited free version (up to three accounts, excluding Twitter/X).
The inbuilt META Business Suite works well for scheduling Facebook and Instagram posts.
